Grimdepot mix album?
I was really bored and stumbled upon this idea.... might come off as kinda stupid but whatever. How about we make a Grimdepot Mix CD of popular music here on the depot (vote for the songs or something), and someone could make cover art or something... and upload the mix to megaupload for everyone to download... Thought it might be kinda fun. Similarly, we could do this with ESSENTIAL mixes for various genres.

Good idea, but who chooses the songs to vote for ?

alecmetal- 07-28-2008

Grim? haha, no clue

interesting idea, alecmetal. it would be interesting to see what gets chosen for inclusion in this mix. I for one would love to see such a thing. Not sure how we could get a sufficient number of members to vote on songs, there are just too many. Anyone have suggestions??

Cool idea! how bout we choose a few from some favorite genres? kind of "best of" for each style? or would that be too organized? *edit* Hah just noticed Alecmetal already suggested this

We should have a thread with nominations, (where everyone can suggest a particular song) Whichever songs were mentioned the most within a certain time-frame (maybe a week or so?) will make it to the next round. At this point the nominations should be divided by the genre of the songs. Then we could have multiple polls for each genres. Whichever songs have the most votes will be added to the compilation. (around 20 songs or so, I guess..) Does that sound fair?

great idea! while i don't have very many suggestions, i'd keep everything open for nominations. everybody here has such a rich and varied taste, it'd be interesting as hell to see it all combined into a set list.

Great. Look forward to it!

Sounds great. I was going to offer to do the artwork, but Grim is fucking boss (no pun intended) at design, so maybe we could do some kind of a collaboration? I think it'd be cool to send each other our ideas for different genre mixes. :D

Good idea. As long as they are genre specified (no hairsplitting sub-genre crap like Deathgrind). Also, depending on the number of songs per "album", say 20, we'd then need at least 20 members nominating something like 20 songs just so we could get a big tally (so we don't have like 5 songs vying for the last spot or something). Would be pretty sweet to see the community consensus on our favorite metal genres. :D

I'd suggest that we start simple with either "Grimdepot's Essential Death Metal Classics" (focused on the 90s)or "Grimdepot's Essential Modern Death Metal" (post 2000). Personally, I'd say a classics collection would be good as starting with the roots is always nice. :)

So... how about starting this up?
