David Vincent of Morbid Angel arrested in Italy
"Author and Metal Hammer reporter Joel McIver received an unexpected phone call in the evening of Tuesday, July 8 from MORBID ANGEL frontman David Vincent. "I was arrested in Italy today — and charged with a weapons offense," explained the furious singer. Vincent went on to explain that the veteran death metal outfit had arrived at Milan airport that morning for a flight to Greece, but that he was detained after customs officials found a bullet-belt inside his checked-in luggage.
Arrested and escorted by a group of 15 to 20 armed police officers to a holding cell, Vincent endured over two and a half hours of questioning before being released. "I asked them again and again if they were kidding," recalled Vincent, "but they said no. The belt is obviously not made of real bullets. Metal is clearly not fashionable in the fashion centre of Europe." The bullet-belt, given to Vincent in 1989 by the Earache owner Digby Pearson when MORBID ANGEL signed to his label, was confiscated and the singer was charged with an offense that translates approximately as "possession of contraband weapons."
Asked for a statement by McIver, Vincent replied: "My comment is this. For 20 years I've had my same friendly bullet-belt with me at all metal occasions. After 20 years of being a lawless individual, I'm happy that the Keystone Kops of spaghetti western fame have been able to show me the error of my ways." He was given a document requesting his attendance in an Italian court, with the date yet to be decided, and was required to contact a lawyer on his return to the USA in order to arrange his defense. "I doubt very much that I'll ever get the belt back," he fumed down the line from Greece, where his band are playing tomorrow evening (Wednesday, July 9). "We barely made our flight," he added. "We only made it to the plane because we make a point of showing up early at airports in case of bullshit like this."

Wow... and what does that say for their police, if they can't discern a real from a fake bullet after over 10 minutes of surveying it. I understand heightened security at airports. What I don't understand is placing the power in the hands of people who are clearly inept at enforcing the rules. Poor David. "Wow" is all I can really say.

The World Misanthropy DVD isn't that old...
Only two albums came out after that one.
I'm mean they aren't Maiden or Dream Theater or so, who bring out a live CD and/or DVD after each album/tour.

GLORIA MORTI Hard At Work On New Material - July 14, 2008
Finnish metallers GLORIA MORTI are currently writing the follow-up to their second album "Eryx", which was released earlier this year through Stay Heavy Records in Finland and Cyclone Empire Records in the rest of Europe.
Commented drummer Jarmo Juurikka: "Ideas have been festering in our heads like fatal tumours ever since we finished recording the previous album, so we are well on our way with the writing process. All of us are itching to make this album as brutal and aggressive as possible, but we still wan't to maintain the eerines that has always been our trademark. We also want to try out a lot of new ideas when it comes to songwriting, since we really don't want to make 'a new, improved 'Eryx'' but a completely new album and a different experience to the listener."
GLORIA MORTI's as-yet-untitled third album is due in 2009.
These guys are already writing their next album? Awesome!! :)

PSYCROPTIC: New Album Title, Artwork Revealed - July 15, 2008
Tasmanian tech-death masters PSYCROPTIC have set "Ob(Servant)" as the title of their fourth album, due in the fall via the group's new label, Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2006's "Symbols of Failure" was mixed and mastered by former MACHINE HEAD and SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader (DIVINE HERESY, GOJIRA) and was recorded once again by guitarist Joe Haley.
Commented drummer Dave Haley: "'Ob(Servant)' is definitely our finest hour (well, finest 49 minutes and 49 seconds anyway). It's, of course, a cliché of every band to say that their newest album is their best and so on, but we are very proud of what we have done on this album.
"The writing process was a little different for this album, with Joe writing pretty much all the material. This gives the album a very coheisive and flowing feel, and this album is definitely our most diverse material thus far. The artwork is also amazing, having been completed by Raymand Swanland (DEEDS OF FLESH). Those not familiar with his work should check it out — you will be amazed!"
He continued: " a mixture of everything we have done, as well as adding in new elements to continue the progression we are on as a band. No point releasing the same album twice, right? Like 'Symbols of Failure', Joe engineered the album, but this time we enlisted the help of metal guru Logan Mader to mix and master the album...and that was probably the best decision we have ever made. The album sounds huge! Since we are currently on the amazing Summer Slaughter tour in the U.S. at the moment, we had been receiving mixes while on the road. After our L.A. show, Logan took myself and Joe to his Dirty Icon studio and put the finishing touches on the mix. Huge is one word for the sound he achieved."
In regards to the band's current U.S. dates as part of the annual Summer Slaughter package with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and KATAKLYSM, Dave stated, "Tonight marks Jason's final U.S. show of the tour — as he will fly home tommorow to meet the la-*test*-('") addition to the PSYCROPTIC family, his first-born daughter Audrey. Congratulations to Jason and girlfriend Kate on this special occasion. Jason will be back in action in August with PSYCROPTIC. For the remaining shows on the tour, Tony (from UNMERCIFUL) will be helping us out on vocals. We are sure U.S. audiences will welcome Tony as warmly as they have welcomed us for the previous dates on the tour, which has been by far the best tour PSYCROPTIC has been a part of! We will return to the U.S. a LOT more after this tour, that is for sure."
Oh Hell Yeah! Can't wait to get my hands on this one!! Like the Title. The cover art is different. I was expecting something along the lines of "Symbols Of Failure" cover art.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. The only thing that could deter me from salivating all over my keyboard is if the singer turned out to be a real letdown. Regardless, the music should be KILLER. I just hope they get someone with the balls to keep up with them. Amazing news... thanks for the heads up.
Peter- 07-22-2008
You're welcome, Sledge. I have high hopes for this band. Praying that they come out with the album asap.
