TOM GABRIEL FISCHER Quits CELTIC FROST - Apr. 9, 2008 Swiss avant-garde/metal pioneers CELTIC FROST have released the following statement via their official web site: "CELTIC FROST singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Fischer has left CELTIC FROST due to the irresolvable, severe erosion of the personal basis so urgently required to collaborate within a band so unique, volatile, and ambitious." It was reported earlier in the year that CELTIC FROST was putting together an album tentatively titled "Monotheist Companion" that will feature unreleased songs from 2006's "Monotheist" sessions and rearrangements of tracks from the album. The disc is tentatively due in the summer. I just saw where Fischer has taken all the music he had been writing for Celtic Frost with him to use in his new band, Triptykon, which also features original Celtic Frost drummer Reed St. Mark and Dark Fortress/ex-Celtic Frost touring guitarist V Santura.

SATYRICON: 'The Age Of Nero' Track Listing, Artwork Unveiled - Aug. 29, 2008 Norwegian black metal band SATYRICON will release its new album, "The Age Of Nero", on November 3 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded in part at Sound City studios in Van Nuys, California, where METALLICA recently recorded its forthcoming LP. "The Age Of Nero" (see artwork below) track listing: 01. Commando 02. The Wolfpack 03. Black Crow On A Tombstone 04. Die By My Hand 05. My Skin Is Cold (album version) 06. The Sign Of The Trident 07. Last Man Standing 08. Den Siste When asked about the involvement of producer Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) in SATYRICON's new CD, the group's vocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven recently told Norway's VG newspaper, "Joe has been a technician on practically the whole project. There might have been some misunderstandings in the Norwegian media about his role — it is me who is the producer; Joe's role is to know which buttons to push to create the sound that I want." Speaking about the first time he played the new album for Roadrunner, Satyr said, "I had nothing to say to them. I just played the album loud, and thought that if they they don't like it, it's their problem. I am so sure about what we have done this time that I don't think about changing a single thing. The door is closed, and we are so much on the right path, that we are not turning eother left or right on this. But they thought it was really good." A European headlining tour will follow beginning on November 12 in Stavanger, Norway and ending in Hamburg, Germany on December 20. Opening all shows will be up-and-coming UK thrashers EVILE. SATYRICON will support CRADLE OF FILTH on a North American tour in January/February. Woot! Now, thats a classic Black Metal Cover Art. Another "eagerly awaiting the leak" album for me :)

EXODUS: 'Let There Be Blood' Artwork Unveiled - Aug. 29, 2008 Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS have completed work on a re-recording of their classic 1985 debut album, "Bonded by Blood". Produced by guitarist Gary Holt, the new CD — entitled "Let There Be Blood" — was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California; JKZ Production Studio in San Rafael, California; with vocal tracks recorded at J. Rod Production Studios in New City, New York. Andy Sneap mixed the CD at his Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England. An October 28, 2008 release through Zaentz Records is expected. Check out the cover artwork below. Commented Holt: "After many years in the planning and discussion stage, we have finally completed the re-recording of 'Bonded By Blood'. We have decided to call it 'Let There Be Blood' and it is our way of paying homage to Paul Baloff by showing how relevant these songs we had written together still are. We aren't trying to replace the original; that's impossible anyway. We are just giving these songs the benefit of modern production. It's something we talked about before Paul's death and it's always been important to us to do. We were super-excited about entering the studio once again to record these classics, and now it's back to writing the next studio record!" Curent EXODUS vocalist Rob Dukes recently released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding the band's decision to re-record "Bonded by Blood": "Paul was rad, totally original. He was not like Hetfield or Araya. I think at times he wanted to be but he was simply himself. He had a really cool way of going up with his voice in the weirdest spots. I, myself, find it cool and original. "I have been singing these songs regularly for three years now and I have totally made them my own but with all the nuances that Paul threw in. I have a different voice than Paul, so it would be kinda stupid to just mimic him, but I definitely bite his style but try to remain myself. "This record is a total homage to him with modern technology and for fun. If he was around, which it is unfortunate that he not, he would be doing this record. "My life is cool now, but it was cool before I joined EXODUS; I made good money had a great apartment in L.A. and I traveled everywhere and surfed regularly. 'Honestly, I would rather hear Paul re-record this. "I will give these songs all the venom and hate I can give, and it's all for the love I have for these songs and this band. If those out there don't like it, and think it's not good, listen to the original — it will always stand the -*test*-('") of time."

KILLER artwork for a killer band. Those swirls coming off the sides of the centerpiece almost look like they were added solely to match the new logo. Either way, still badass. They'll probably be changing their myspace layout to match the album cover, but for those interested, feel free to check out their current layout, a quickie done by yours truly. :D

CYNIC: New Album Artwork, Track Listing Revealed - Sep. 1, 2008 Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC — whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal — will release their new album, "Traced In Air" on October 28 via Season of Mist Records (one day earlier internationally). The CD contains eight songs, and the band worked once again with renowned artist Robert Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus") on the art for the new album, which can be viewed below. "Traced In Air" track listing: 01. Nunc Fluens 02. The Space For This 03. Evolutionary Sleeper 04. Integral Birth 05. The Unknown Guest 06. Adam's Murmur 07. King of those Who Know 08. Nunc Stans Returning from the "Focus" era for the new eight-song, 35-minute effort are are founding members Paul Masvidal (guitars/clean vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums) along with Sean Malone (bass), and joining the band in the studio is newcomer Tymon Kruidenier (guitars/growls). The band recorded the effort at a California studio with producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA). Commented Masvidal: "We're thrilled to share the new CYNIC alien seedling with the world. I trust that this magical plant will be watered well and tended to. The roots are intact, now the branches get to soar high into the sky and provide shade for those of us stressed about current weather conditions. We've all been on this journey together. It's time we tell a new story. One of my favorite thinkers Ralph Waldo Emerson said: 'We live amid surfaces, and the true art is to skate well on them'. Well it's time, we let the dance begin!" CYNIC will be direct support slot on the OPETH European trek in November/December. The band has also been announced as the headliner for this year's ProgPower Europe festival, and will be playing a special extended set at the show. A U.S. tour will follow in early 2009. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/cyniconline. Rockalaram conducted an interview with Masvidal and Reinert at this year's Wacken Open Air festival, which was held July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. Watch the six-minute chat below.

New Kreator Album: First Impression German thrash legends Kreator release a new studio album, likely to be titled 'Hordes Of Chaos', via SPV Records in January. Metal Hammer's Dave Ling was among the first journalists to hear its nine songs - ten if you include a two-parter that appears towards the album's end - when guitarist/frontman/songwriter Mille Petrozza flew into London to approve the final mix-down, which was handled by Colin Richardson (Machine Head/Napalm Death/Slipknot/Carcass). Basic production had taken place during the summer at Titonus studios in Berlin with producer Moses Schneider. 'Hordes Of Chaos' continues down the path of 2005's 'Enemy Of God' and 2001's 'Violent Revolution', making the band's 'experimental' albums of the 1990s sound pretty risible. It's loud, fast and crushingly brutal. Stand-out tracks include the title song, plus 'War Curse', 'Destroy What Destroys You', 'Radical Resistance', 'Absolute Misanthropy' and the balls-out, 100-MPH thrash of 'Demon Prince' which brings the album to a breathless close. No exaggeration, listening to this album leaves you feeling as though you've been run over by a Panzer tank. Kreator are expected to unleash their new album in January 2009.
