I heard a sound board quality version of "Cyanide" (the new song that they played in Ozzfest) and I must tell you, it was..... pathetic! :(
James vocals sounded the worst and I'm with Sledge on this... Hetfield's vocals has always had a huge impact on the way Metallica sounded in the past. I'm not getting my hopes too high for this album.

Has anyone heard the first single of Death Magnetic already?
You can listen to it on the bands myspace and website.
I've just listened to it twice and I must say that I'm impressed!
It's indeed a combination between the black album and ...And Justice For All, both sound and songwriting wise.
It's very One-like imo!
I like it!
And I'm looking forward to the rest of the album!

Wasn't too keen on the soundboard version of "Cyanide", but "The Day That Never Comes" was bewildering... in a good way. It's far from their best song ever and all that shit, but compared to what I was expecting, hot damn. Better than anything they've done in the past few albums, in my opinion. I just wish those trademark Metallica harmonies that popped up at the end would've been used more throughout. Love that sound. Still, like I said, nothing groundbreaking... but good on their part, indeed.

Yeah, I heard that one the other day and I totally agree with you. I think this album could end up surprising alot of people.

Indeed, I totally agree with the both of you!

I found the first half "Load" like and the rest was "Black". I agree with Sledge and others on the fact that they should have used the trademark harmonies a lot more.
The track was nothing outstanding and I'm hoping this is the only other "ballad" (God, I dont know how Unforgiven III is going to sound). I'm hoping for a good thrash record, but I'm not keeping my hopes too high. Maybe that I'd enjoy the album a lot more ;)

Yeah, indeed.
I guess that's all there's left to do; wait for its release...
But sometimes waiting is far from my speciality :P!

If it's any consolation, I remember reading that "The Day That Never Comes" is indeed the slowest song on the album. Not sure how that'll turn out, especially since I like that one way more than "Cyanide", but we'll see. Also, I know Trujillo's new to the band still, but was anyone else hoping that he'd bring in a thrashier vibe because of his past? Granted, he probably doesn't have tons of pull, especially as a songwriter, but still... I was hoping he'd snap them back to reality, haha.

Good to hear that, Sledge.
James' throat definitely needs some alcohol to make his voice sound old school. Ever since he went sober, his vocals has been sober too!! It lacks that rage that was seen on the first four albums. Alcohol should be the best medicine for him

I read the same thing.
If I'm right it was in the Metal Hammer review of the listening session to six of the new songs.

Here's the next song My Apocalypse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI6574Vpli4
This song is a lot thrashier than the last two songs and sounds more tight. I like the solo. The production quality is poor. I'm hoping its not the same quality on the CD.
Lyrics:
Claustrophobic, Crawl out of this skin
High explosive, Reach and pull that pin
Fear thy name: Extermination
Desecrating hail of fire
So we cross that line
Into the crypt; Total eclipse
Suffer unto my apocalypse
Deadly vision, Prophecy reveal
Death magnetic, Pulling closer still
Fear thy name: Annihilation
Desolating hail of fire
So we cross that line
into the crypt; total eclypse
Suffer unto my apocalypse
My Apocalypse
Crushing metal ripping skin
Tossing body manequins
Spilling blood bleeding gas
Mangled flesh snapping spines
Dripping bloody valentine
shattered face spitting glass
Split apart
Split apart
Split apart
Split
Spit it out
What makes me drift a little bit closer
Dead man takes the steering wheel
What makes me know what time to cross over
Want to repeat until i feel
See thru the skin the bones they are rattled
Future and past that disagree
Flesh falls away the bones they all shatter
Pass time to see the end in me
See the end in me
Claustrophobic, climb out of this skin
High explosive, Reach and pull that pin
Violate; annihilate
lose into my eyes
Obliterate; exterminate
If not accept; deny
Fear thy name as hell awakens
Destiny in hail of fire
So we cross that line
Into the crypt; total eclypse
Suffer unto my apocalypse
Tyrants awaken my apocalypse
Demon awaken my apocalypse
Heaven awaken my apocalypse
Suffer forever my apocalypse

Peter, you beat me to it!
I think it's a great song! Though I agree, hopefully the sound is a lot better on the CD.

Its a good song, but not 'great' to my ears. Lets see what the album has in store for us.
